Cetrimide is an antiseptic which is a mixture of different quaternary ammonium salts including Cetrimonium bromide.






1. Identification

A. A yellow precipitate is produced



B. Yellow colour observed in chloroform layer


C. A curdled pale yellow precipitate is formed


2. Acidity or alkalinity

NMT 1.0 ml of either 0.1M HCL or 0.1M NAOH is required to change the colour of Solution


3. Miscibility

The solution remains clear


4. Neutral substances

The residue weighs not more than 0.4 g.

The difference between the volumes corresponding to A and B is not more than 10 ml


6. Iso Propyl Alcohol

Iso propyl alcohol is not more than 10% v/v
